excellency, your

excellency, your
A title of honour for an ambassador. It was at one time used to royal personages of either sex, but appears to have been restricted to ambassadors since the end of the seventeenth century. ‘You can rely on that,’ says the Turkish Ambassador to Lord Wheatley, in Phroso, by Anthony Hope. ‘That is a diplomatic assurance, your Excellency?’ replies the noble lord. The word ‘Excellency’ is sometimes used on its own in direct address to an ambassador.
